Facebook learns Hashtag from Twitter
In 2007, the only social media that actually used hashtags was Twitter. In June 2013, Facebook finally adopted hashtags. Mark Zuckerberg’s social network wanted to make it easier for users to find content that was already on Facebook. According to Facebook, several users were already posting hashtags anyway, so why not make them work?
Don’t forget about Google+
Another major social network that adopted hashtags was Google Plus.
With Google’s Hummingbird update late 2013, all marketing executives were focused on updating their online marketing and SEO strategy. The Hummingbird update impacted the social media marketing realm by increasing SEO dependence on Google Plus hashtags.
